A BBC investigation attacks mortgage brokers

A BBC investigation claims that there is serious mis-selling in the sub prime mortgage market in Britain.

These claims were made in a BBC Radio 4 programme.

The BBC’s website stated that one borrower was advised to double his income when he applied for a mortgage. As a result of this he was given a loan of eight times his salary, which he had a problem paying and he has subsequently been threatened with repossession.

Radio 4 also reported that a former broker claimed that some advisors recommend that borrowers on low incomes inflate their incomes when they apply for mortgages in order to obtain huge loans that they cannot afford to repay.

Inflating your income on a mortgage application is a criminal offence.
