Aberdeenshire Property Hotspot
A survey by the Bank of Scotland found that property in the Aberdeenshire town has risen by 35%
Inverurie along with Aberdeen and Edinburgh are the only places in Scotland where the average cost of a property is now over £200,000
The bank confirmed that the average price of a home in Scotland has risen by 14% during the past year to £141,000. This is 3.5% above the UK average.
Experts say that high prices in Aberdeen are creating a ripple effect on other towns in Aberdeenshire.
Councillor Richard Cowling fears that many local people in Inverurie are being priced out of the market. He said that many people were delighted that they own expensive houses but he feels that it will cause problems at the lower end of the market and for any one trying to get onto the property ladder.
He also said that a lot of young families were moving into the area, which is having an impact on schools.
There are also concerns with migrant workers who have been able to find work in Inverurie but are now priced out of the market.
Other services are affected such as the local GP practice and educational services .The GP practice is now the largest in Scotland.
